But this doesn’t stop our Ram and Leela from embarking on a lust-fuelled romance. The trouble is they belong to warring clans who can trace their enmity back nearly 500 years. Set in a fictional Gujarati village, Bhansali’s take on Romeo and Juliet, sees the local Casanova Ram – played by an effervescent Ranveer Singh – falling hard for the exuberant Leela, a role Deepika Padukone walks into effortlessly. Much like an extravagant buffet that is a visual treat but leaves one hankering for more, one walks out of the theatre feeling a little short changed. Yet Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s nearly three-hour dance-drama surprisingly leaves one untouched. Romance, action, humour – you name it, the movie delivers it on a platter. A buff hero not averse to showing off his well-oiled torso at every given opportunity. A beautiful actress with a proven track record. At first glance Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela has everything going for it.
